Japan Blue

This collage was done on a vintage Japanese book cover that I mounted on a wood board. The board has layers of paper from a vintage Japanese book. I also used patterned Japanese papers, an old label and a Japanese envelope with a vintage stamp.

Time for a new collage

Here's a new little collage I did. It's mounted on wood and uses all my favorites. I found an old worn tape measure that is now one of my new favorites for collage.

100 Tag Collages 34 and 35

I'm a third of the way through my 100 tags but the year is over half done so I'd better get cracking - or collaging- as they say! So, two more collages today.

The first one, Tag 34,  uses vintage paper and music, a coffee filter and rubber stamps.

The second collage uses coffee filters in the background, some vintage documents, and George and Martha Washington postage stamps.

Authentic

Tag 28 was done on a chunky cardboard hangtag that came with something my husband bought. I rescued it from the trash. I can't remember what the item was but I liked the word "authentic" and kept it visible. I used some old music, black and white hand made papers and a piece of a French document.

Seeing Red

Two tag collages this week, inspired by the color red.
The first tag has Asian flair, using handmade and vintage papers and a tiger matchbox cover.

For the second tag, I colored the tag with a red ink pad and then layered different red papers and a rubber stamped image from Latvia.

Tag Collage Challenge -Tags 4 and 5

Got busy this past weekend and collaged 2 tags.

Tag number 4 uses hand made papers, a vintage document and a coffee filter that I stamped. (The coffee filter is a tiny one that fits a Keurig machine. The filter is the shape of the basket and has a round top which I tear off. Perfect for collaging!)

Tag number 5 uses some hand made marbled paper, a vintage document and a postage stamp.

When life gives you unexpected free time

...collage!

I purchased some nice old book covers from Red Cottage on Etsy. The base of this collage is a leather cover and part of the spine. The stains on the cover were so beautiful that I didn't want to cover too much. I added some vintage papers, rubber stamp pattern, and postage stamps.

52 Weeks of Collage Part 2 Week 46

My collage this week started with a photo that reminds me of my grandmother. She was very elegant and I have several pictures from the early 1900's where she is wearing a hat just like this.

52 Weeks of Collage Part 2 Week 4

I missed posting a collage yesterday due to an appointment with my Sales and Use tax forms that did not go well. I do not know why they make those things so hard to figure out. Luckily, a nice person at the Board of Equalization helped me out and now, my taxes are all done.

My collage for this week was done on canvas using old French, Italian and Japanese documents along with tickets, postage stamps and music.

52 weeks of Collage Part 2 - Week 3

When I create a collage, I always end up with lots of extra little pieces and they end up in a scrap box. My collage this week is made from those scraps.

Collage Cubes

In 2014 I did my 52 weeks of collage. For weeks 35 and 36, I collaged on wood cubes which was fun and a little different. One was given away for an art exchange so I purchased a few more cubes to do some new ones.

Below is one of the new collage cubes.  I painted the cube with acrylic paint and then used vintage postage stamps, antique documents, bits of old money and rubber stamps.

New Collages

I got motivated and completed two new collages. The first one is done on an old Bingo card. I letterpressed some pattern carved on linoleum block in the back ground. One pattern is printed with a clear varnish. On darker paper, the clear varnish shows up a little darker and is transparent. The other pattern is a light gray which didn't show up as well as I had hoped but does add a little texture. I then used some of my vintage wood type and printed the X and o's. For the rest of the collage, I used rubber stamps and vintage papers. (I purchased the large letter X at lschneeman on Etsy. The shop has a nice selection of letterpress wood type and other print blocks!)

My second collage is done on the back of marching band music. I was originally going to print on the music but I turned over the card and really liked the hand writing across the back. I printed my pattern in gray going 2 directions. I then letterpress printed the X, ampersand and exclamation point from my wood type collection. Rubber stamps and a few vintage postage stamps still on their envelopes complete the collage. At the top is a 1955 postmark from Vatican City.
