LA Printer's Fair

Next Saturday, October 3, is the LA Printer's Fair at the International Museum of Printing in Carson, CA. It's a great show where you can try your hand on a letterpress or type setting machine, purchase your very own press and supplies, or just buy finished product from a variety of talented sellers.

I'll have a booth and I've been madly printing in order to get ready for the show. I really wanted to have my 2016 calendar done, which it finally is. I draw all of my designs on tracing paper and then transfer the drawing to the lino block. The image on the block is in reverse and it will print like it looks on the paper.

And here is the finished month of July
The calendar will be in my shop next Sunday, as soon as I get a chance to photograph it. And I'll see you at the Fair on Saturday!

LA Printer's Fair

Last year I did a post  about the LA Printers Fair at the International Printing Museum. This year, I'll be exhibiting instead of just shopping. If you're a letterpress lover or just a history buff, the museum is a must see. They've got working presses, some over 100 years old, and tons of letterpress equipment including wood type and presses for sale. The fair has not only vendors with finished printed items (I bought cards), but also sellers with supplies (I bought ink in tubes and a wood hammer for knocking my type in place) and misc cool stuff  (I purchased a vintage drawer handle from a Hamilton type cabinet). There are also demonstrations and you can try out some of the presses yourself. Who knows, you could walk away with a nice little table top press (or at least some of my cards).

You can check out the museum website here and info about the fair here. The museum is located in lovely Carson, California just south of LA. The fair is on October 4 from 9 until 4.

Printer's Fair

Last weekend was the 5th annual LA Printer's Fair at the International Museum of Printing in Carson, California. The museum is really cool and has a large inventory of working vintage presses and related antique printing machinery. They have lots of events, classes and demonstrations. In addition to letterpress printing, they also offer classes in book arts.

In addition to printing demonstrations, the fair has vendors selling everything from hand printed cards, to paper vendors and printing press supplies. I purchased a number of items including press ink, some "furniture" for my press, and some awesome cards. Here are a few snaps of what I saw.

A really large press that I wish I owned
An antique Albion press that I was able to try printing with.
