Who is
E. Probst? I can't find any information on this mid- century illustrator but their illustrations of fairy tales are fantastic. Today I am sharing two of my books- Tom Thumb and Little Red Cap (aka Little Red Riding Hood). Both of these books were published in 1965 by McGraw-Hill and printed in Belgium
Little Red Cap is from Grimm's Fairy Tales and was adapted by Evalyn Kinkead.
Tom Thumb is from Grimm's Fairy Tales and was adapted by Audrey Claus.
Other's in this series that I have seen include Hansel and Gretel, The Brave Little Tailor, Puss in Boots, The Good Elves, and The Magic Table.

Hello; was wondering if you found anything about E. Probst? I am selling Puss in Boots illustrated by Probst on Ebay, and i have all the others from this series in my children's book collection. His work is graphically stunning, and the colors are fantastic. Thanks for any info you may have.
I haven't been able to find any info on Probst - not even a first name. I love the illustrations though. If I ever find some info, I'll let you know.
Émile Probst was his name. I think there's a German Wikipedia entry for him which gives his dates as 1913-2004. I don't have any German so may have the wrong end of the stick. I have the two books that you illustrate above.I always found the pictures slightly unnerving.
Thank you so much for the info!
